Slope Calculator

Find the slope of the line through two points in the plane and see the slope-intercept form when possible.

Slope through two points

Tips: Enter coordinates in the same units. If x₁ = x₂, the line is vertical and slope is undefined.

FAQ

For two distinct points (x₁,y₁) and (x₂,y₂), slope m = (y₂−y₁)/(x₂−x₁). A vertical line has undefined slope because x₂−x₁ = 0.

When the slope is defined, y = mx + b with b = y₁ − m x₁ describes the same line (one of many equivalent forms).

Slope is a ratio of vertical change to horizontal change in the same units; keep x and y in consistent units for interpretable results.
